You can't fake being Southern

While columnist Dick Yarborough's rendering, "You can't fake being Southern, so don't even try" was amusingly entertaining, I respectfully disagree. There once lived a traveling evangelist who called himself Father Devine, AKA
Reverend General Jealous Devine. The good Father D. once claimed, when asked the origin of his birth, that he was 'combusted on the streets of Philadelphia. He also claimed, among other things, to be God in human form and was the sole conduit to the promised land. Later it was revealed that he most likely was born and reared in the southland, probably Georgia, however if he really came from Philadelphia, his south-speak was impeccable, proving that you can in fact fake being Southern.
Now while I was..uh...'combusted' on the streets of Waterbury, Conn. I have lived in Georgia almost half my life and have been married to a true daughter of the south
for over 36 years. Barbara, 'the chosen one' was born in Mississippi and reared in Georgia. She constantly assures me that in spite of my unfortunate place of 'combustion' that I Have evolved into a true representative of ....of...well she never quite finishes the sentence, but I'm sure her intentions are flattering if not exactly truthful .
The point is, if one can be imagined at this point, I contend that Yarborough is wrong and that you CAN fake being southern... See?
