Not all Southerners are authentic

Ernest Wade's response to my letter, "not all Southerners are authentic" touched my heart. He congratulated me on
being married to a Mississippi belle and for being lucky enough to find a southern girl who would marry me. Ernest, I consider myself lucky to have found ANY girl who would marry me. Unlike you, a native son of Dixie, I lack the "strong inner peace and happiness in knowing that I have been blessed". I also lack the humility and shyness so prevalent throughout your letter, but I must confess to being somewhat disappointed to learn that I also fall short of "that certain something that gives one confidence and unusual character". I have always felt that I was an unusual character. Perhaps Ernest and I can share common ground in this at least. As for "a smidgen of southern culture having rubbed off on me", I do believe that it has. I can scoff a corn dog with the best of them and I always stand at attention when Ray Charles sings Georgia. I do however, retain certain aspects of my New England heritage, but let no man suggest that I sound like Ted Kennedy. Even in Connecticut we draw a line.
I enjoyed your letter Ernest and who knows, maybe the time will come when we'll see eye to eye on something. As for not acting southern, I'm sorry, Ah jes cain't he'p it.
