Party-less and proud
Gene Wade, in his letter, "Party-less and proud", has taken me to task for suggesting he was a, "gasp", Republican. Sorry, Gene, it was one of those 'if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck' things. I assumed that Gene's stalwart defense of the president's role in the Katrina response was a sure indication of his membership in 'the club'. It just goes to show how wrong assumptions can be sometimes, Gene rejects both Democratic and Republican partys out of hand, calling one a "spoils-based bunch of elitists" and the other, "Atilla-like groups of radical left-wing socialists". I'll leave it to the reader to sort out which is which. I happen to be a member of one of those "radical left-wing socialist" groups, quaintly referred to as 'liberals'. Well, it beats being called a 'Commie', I suppose, but not by much. Actually I don't adhere to any 'march in lock -step' ideology except the one that advocates giving every sucker an even break.
Gene is probably correct in suggesting that our similarities are greater than our differences and he even offered to meet me for breakfast to discuss them. Now that I know he is'nt a Republican, I might even avoid getting stuck with the check. After all, "wonders never cease".
