War

Just when I began to half believe Rumsfeld and Cheney when they tell us how much better off the Iraqi people are now that a new 'democratic' regime has been installed....with our help, of course, up jumped the devil in the form of 170 Iraqi 'detainees' wearing the all too familiar colors of torture- generated black and blue. Could it be that we are replacing Saddam's thugs with more of the same? Are the good guys just clones of the previous regime and have we just engaged in the dumbest expedition of self delusional fantasy imaginable? Regardless of where one stands on the issue of the justification of our involvement in Iraq, the question of who's in charge remains moot. I'll bet that if we had asked our 'intellegence' sources if there was any truth in the rumor that Iraqi detainees were being tortured by our 'good Iraqis', outraged denials would fill the air. Then again, this may all be a misunderstanding of what the vice president and Donald Rumsfeld mean when they define what constitutes prisoner abuse. If we Americans remain confused, how can we expect the newly 'saved' Iraqi regime to be otherwise.
If someday, a movie emerges from this crazy quilt, I'll wait for it to be on Cablevision.
