If you wish

We've all heard the expression, "be careful what you wish for because you might get it". This is oh so true for the Bush administration's constant nattering about establishing true democracy in the Middle East. Well lo and behold if the Palestinians did'nt just up and democratically elect new leadership with a voter turn-out that should make Americans blush with shame. The problem, of course, is that the newly elected regime hates our guts and is dedicated to the utter destruction of our good buddies, the Israelis. What is almost laughable is that the administration, while on one hand praising the Palestinian people for excercising their freedom of choice, is vowing not to give the newly 'democratically' elected regime a dime in aid. Well, I suppose that's something for aid weary Americans to feel good about. Imagine, some place on earth we don't have to lend support to. I was beginning to think we had just about had it all covered.

There was another almost, but not quite, laughable out-come of the election and that was when the losing party started attacking their own candidates and demanding their resignations from the party...or be shot, whichever came first. Now that's something our political parties have never resorted to...up until now at least. Sort of a lose, lose big situation.

The bottom line here is, why oh why can't this country stop trying to clone the rest of the world in our image, which at this point in time can stand some refurbishing.
As long as we're in wishing mode, how aout wishing our politicians would suddenly come down with a case of smarts. Now that WOULD be wishful thinking
