Hope springs Eternal

There is something unsettling, even frightening, about the desperate fervor
being shown by some politicians in seeking election or re-election for public office. Why, one wonders, are they willing to subject themselves to such scrutiny and sometimes villification by their political opponents and the public at large to get these jobs? Some will go to any lengths, including lying and subterfuge to attain victory. Of course we all hope that our favorite candidates are noble in spirit and have the best interests of the nation at heart. We also hope that sooner or later we will win the lottery or medical science will come up with an eternity pill or at least a cure for the common cold. We should all keep in mind that the coming elections in November will be a testing ground in which every voting citizen will get
his shot at choosing who will lead us into the ongoing foray of the problems that beset us. Cynicism aside, there has to be. lurking out there somewhere, leaders we can trust to keep the ship of state afloat. We are truly approaching a sink or swim mode.
