reflections
Normally it's not a good idea to talk politics with people who have
strong differences, especially if they are friends. This truth was made
obvious to me the other night when my wife and I had dinner guests
whose parlor politics varied from ultra conservative to kick butt liberalism.
Having said that, I'm pleased to announce that nobody resorted to violence or 'in your face' rhetoric. The downside was that friendships went south
in a cloud of red eyed glares. The main topic of conversation was Iraq.
Everybody agreed it was a cauldron of horror, but the differences lay in whom to blame. I personally played devils advocate and blamed everybody
including the tooth fairy. Nobody bought my act however, so there were no
handshakes and cries of "let's do this again" when my guests departed.
This did'nt curb anybody's appetite though and I have vowed to serve snacks only if I'm ever stupid enough to do this again.
