Uneasy but hopeful
This is the time of year we're inclined to go all soft and fuzzy reflecting upon events of the past and visions of the future. Despite wars and elections and catastrophic displays of nature's wrath, we are comforted by the fact that we have somehow managed to muddle through and are preparing to take on whatever comes down the pike. Perhaps while we're in the process of being thankful for whatever blessings that have come our way, we should reflect, at least briefly, on the unfinished business of righting the wrongs and easing the misery that plagues so much of our world. As Americans we know full well that we enjoy a disproportionate share of the good things of life. We also know that there are those who are eager to wrest those things from our grasp in a number of violent ways. We need to stay vigilant and at the same time keep our eyes on the prize, a world in which every sucker gets an even break.
