The pit of despair
It is truly ironic that the part of the world where three of the world's great religions were founded is where the hatred and the killing prevails. We have to wonder why it is that the moderate Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders cannot keep their flocks from wreaking such pain and suffering upon each other. We keep telling ourselves that is the extremists, not the main stream members of these faiths who are the culprits, but we cannot explain why the radical elements hold such sway over so many people.
Perhaps we have been and continue to be, overly smug in thinking that the so called moral majority is destined to win the day against all odds, when the awful truth is it seems to have become a question of who is willing to make the greatest sacrifice. Religious wars are nothing new, nor are those willing to blindly follow fanatical leaders and give up their lives in the name of one God or another , but never on such a scale as we are witnessing to-day, the so called age of enlightenment. The followers of Islam, the true believers of the teaching of the koran who denounce senseless violence and killing, have to speak out against the wild eyed zealots who are leading them astray...and the rest of the world needs to provide whatever support is required or be prepared to reap the harvest of its indifference.

I agree, there's a distorted view of religion and it is getting worse. I suggest looking to Richard Dawkins for answers, he has made many great speeches about religion and why humans are here. YouTube Richard Dawkins...
