Friends to the end.....almost
John McCain's recent repudiation of the president's handling of the war in Iraq after months of lock-step pro-pentagon rhetoric reminded me of Al Gore's distancing himself from Bill Clinton when Gore was running for president. It may have been understandable politically, but nobody likes a turncoat no matter what party they represent. Zell Miller didn't thrill his constituency when he kicked off the Republican convention with a ranting tirade against his own party. Democrats foolishly believed he represented their interests. McCain raised a few eyebrows when he embraced Jerry Falwell in a bear hug recently....this after insulting the man in previous speeches. It just goes to show, I suppose, that politicians make strange bed fellows......and party loyalty goes just so far. Maybe it really is time for a woman president. Women tend not to back down. Take my wife for example.....please. Just kidding, dear.
