Peace talks

I recently submitted a letter to USA To-day in which I questioned why the United States refused to hold one on one talks with North Korea and Iran to try and establish peacful dialogue in an effort to halt the manufacturing of nuclear devices. At this moment in time, negotiations to this end are in progress with North Korea and a meeting has been established between the U,S., Iraq and Iran to discuss ways to slow down and ultimately end the ongoing slaughter in that part of the world. Whether these efforts will succeed or not is anybody's guess, but the fact that the effort is being made can only be cause for hopeful optimism. The intransigent stand of our government in not wanting to sit down with the 'enemy' has gotten us nowhere and the philosophy of "keeping our friends close and our enemies closer" is clearly the wise choice of action here.
