Come to the table

Whenever the hard liners in two fueding countries hold sway, the chances for reconciliation are usually nil and none. Every so often cooler heads prevail, however, and a measure if peace can be established. There are government factions in Iran right now attempting to mend the rift between Iran and the U.S.,if only to tamp down the violence in Iraq and end the conflict. Apparently there are those in this administration who are interested in establishing constructive dialog with these factions, but the question is how high up do they go and can the president do the hither- to unthinkable and overcome his set in cement stubbornness and come to terms with realty. Like it or not, Iran is not going to go away and its pivotal importance in the Middle East is undeniable. Neither the U.S. or Iran is in a position to maintain a my way or the highway attitude if there can ever be a peaceful settlement in the region. As far as establishing an American style democracy in Iraq is concerned.......well, as they say in Brooklyn, "fageddaboudit".
