Enough already

Kathleen Parker's column ("Culture no excuse for being racist, uncivil") was right on the money. She and I are rarely in agreement on political issues, but her take on what happened in the case of Elizabeth Kandrac, the teacher who was verbally abused by black students in Brentwood Middle School in North Charleston, cannot be denied. The teacher was subjected to street trash names most of us have been made privvy to by some hip hop artists and rappers. There are those who consider such trash talk as just "cultural expressions." Some culture! Some expressions! How demeaning this is to the fine Black people who have contributed so much to this country at every level. We witnessed how quickly Don Imus was dealt with for his stupid racial slurs against that girls basketball team and most of us applauded the outcome. Elizabeth Kandrac was also dealt with. In her case she was fired for being the 'abusee.' I guess being called a "white ho" is not on a par with being called a "nappy headed ho." How far is this stupidity going to go before we recognize that NO culture can survive on crappy values.
