Bewitched, bothered and beleagured
Imagine my surprise when ,having just seen a televised report from Albania where the President was being lavished with praise and adoration, I felt a surge of compassion for the man. It felt good to see our President warmly welcomed by a foreign country for a change. Let me hasten to say that this in no way diminishes my opposition to the way this President has led our country or my continuing dissatisfaction with the ongoing failures of his foreign policy and the handling of the war in Iraq, but for a brief moment it was a relief not having to see his effigy hanging from a tree or the flag smoldering in a trash littered street. The President will no doubt savor the memory of his short stay on cloud nine, because the reality of the problems facing him at home is almost too great to bear. While those of us who remain adamant in our rejection of where this administration has led us, we cling to the hope that better days are coming. Sooner or later.
