Time out
Of all the issues to come up during the so-called "debates," the one that really got my attention was the casual willingness to launch a preemptive attack on Iran if it didn't cease its nuclear activities regardless of lack of proof that weapons were involved. Iran steadfastly claims it has no intention of building nuclear weapons and we steadfastly insist that it does. Okay, let's give ourselves the benefit of the doubt and say Iran, in fact, does intend to produce a nuclear bomb. What are they going to do with it? Who are they going to bomb with the whole world looking on? Within minutes of launching such a bomb, Iran would be reduced to rubble and become nothing more than a menace to navigation in the Middle East. Could there be any other outcome? Is it reasonable to expect Iran to do something that incredibly stupid as to bring about its own destruction? To what end? Have we become so trigger happy as to be willing to ignite a fire that no amount of diplomacy can extinguish. We are witnessing the results of making unilateral attacks on a country based on faulty intelligence and flawed logic. Do we really want to travel down that road again? This time around, let's parcel out the action to the rest of the world and may God help us all if we don't get it right this time.
