Temperatures and tempers rising
My wife didn't think it was funny when I said to her, "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Barbara does not "go gently into that hot night." She absolutely hates the heat and would prefer winter weather year round...or so she says when it's hot outside. It does me no good to point out to her how relatively lucky we are compared to people world-wide who are being subjected to earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, mud slides and suicide bombers. She sympathizes with them, of course, but like most of us who are out of the line of fire, it's what's happening here and now that dominates her immediate concern. Will Rogers once said, "everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Al Gore couldn't agree more, except he believes that something CAN and should be done about it. Well, good luck with that, but governments are slow to act on or acknowledge new ideas, especially when they stand in the way of corporate bottom lines. My wife, who is true daughter of the south, believes that I, despite my having lived here for over 40 years, am still the Yankee carpet bagger of my youth and therefore totally ignorant of the weather patterns of the south. She says I'm entitled to my opinions, but I should keep them to myself. I will have to admit though, it is hot as hell out there.
