Worthy of mention

While I'm not prepared to choose whom I will vote for in the next presidential election, I would like to comment on a man I believe is deserving of our attention. John Edwards, who has been likened to "John Boy" of the old television series, The Waltons, because of his youthful looks and kindly demeanor, has probably gone astray in his choice of a main stream issue to personify his candidacy. He has chosen to by-pass the middle class voters and concentrate his efforts on behalf of the poor. The fact that Mr. Edwards is himself a wealthy man should not exclude him from this cause, considering that President Franklin Roosevelt was an aristocrat and a millionaire who was revered by poverty-stricken Americans during the Great Depression and is considered to be one of the greatest presidents of any era. The problem as I see it is that hardly anybody really gives a damn about the poor. Politicians generally ignore them because they can't contribute to their campaigns and represent having to lobby for expenditures that can alienate their constituents and endanger their careers. John Edwards may never become President of the United States, but when it gets down to having true grit and the courage of his convictions, he may end up being he lone ranger in the crowd.
