The case for cloning

There appears to be a growing demand on the part of some ultra right wing conservatives that their choice for a presidential candidate must adhere to all, not some, but ALL, of the doctrinal criteria on their agenda. He must be anti-abortion, anti-gun control, anti-gay marriage and, most decidedly anti-Democrat. I'm sure there are a few more antis in there, but the salient point here is that the candidate must represent every aspect of the extreme right wing of the Republican party with nary a stray liberal or moderate thought to stain the fabric of its political mosaic. Can a 'Fuhrer' be waiting in wings to answer the clarion call? Of course this is about as likely to happen as a national holiday is to be celebrated on George Bush's birthday any time soon. The extremist arms of our political parties should be aware of the diversity of the American people and bear in mind that no one political or religious group is ever going to dominate the scene for long. We still like to think that the President of the United States, regardless of his personal views, will represent all of the people, all of the time and always, it is to be hoped, adhere to the law of the land as prescribed in the constitution. A word of caution to those who would impose their 'my way or the highway' will upon the rest of us: remember Dolly, the cloned sheep. She never lived long enough to bear lambs.
