Letter to the editor

How, may I ask, can a nation flourish or even function, when its head of state and an elected body of politicians who share governing powers, seldom see eye to eye on anything? Well, we don't have to look far for an answer, do we? The President and the Congress of the United States seem to start and end each day in dysfunctional disarray, only occasionally coming together to get anything worthwhile accomplished. Or so it seems. The unbelievable fact is that this nation, in spite of continuous floundering and ineptitude, DOES flourish and it DOES function. Not to everyone's satisfaction, of course, but since there hasn't been any mass exodus to other lands, it has to be assumed that things 'can't be all that bad'. Maybe, just maybe, if the President and the Congress should suddenly go all touchy-feely and start pumping out legislation, it would come as such a shock to the people, it would create mass paranoia and who knows what that can lead to? Still, I believe most of us wouldn't mind seeing them giving it a shot, would we?
