Change up

Whatever else emanates from the Iowa caucus, the 'surge' of young potential voters that rallied around Barack Obama was one of the highlights of the process. It doesn't matter whether or not Obama is your candidate, the important thing he was able to energize, even electrify, the largest turn-out of young people ever seen at a caucus in that state. The 'surge' was unprecedented and, in my opinion at least, bodes well for this country. I believe that both Democrats and Republicans are ready for change. There isn't much to gain by re-hashing the mistakes and missteps of an administration that will soon fade into history. The idea is to learn from them and be prepared to listen to new ideas from new people and not be bogged down in partisan politics. Even though Republican candidate Mike Huckabee represents a different approach to governing this country, he does recognize the need for change as well. I hope that whoever is the final man for the job, he takes the young people of this country into account. They are, after all, for good or bad, our future.

Comments:
I too have noticed that with this election, young people are becoming more and more involved because they feel they can relate to Obama. Obama may be younger than past presidential candidates but I beleive that this can be seen as an advantage because he is attracting many of the younger voters that otherwise would not have voted.

By exciting the younger public, the nominees will benefit greatly. In past elections I believe the younger public has been apathetic and has complained about the need for change and now nominees are addressing those wants and needs. There is a large majority of young voters who are going to be deciding factors in this election.
