You gotta believe
John McCain. or "Honest" John McCain as he would prefer, is basing his presidential bid on the premise that he will always tell us the truth. He told us that the war in Iraq was justified and he is still weaving that tale in spite of a recent study that the White House issued nearly one thousand false statements BEFORE the invasion of Iraq, including the one that said that the existence of weapons of mass destruction was "a slam dunk". It is hard to imagine that Senator McCain could have been so completely out of the loop that he failed to smell a rat at some point over the past five years and yet he snaps to attention and flaps the flag in our faces, expressing outrage at the "treasonous traitors" who protest the war. Certainly McCain was not the only political personage to take this stand, but to many, including myself, John McCain stood above the fray and would never let politics influence his judgment. Just the other day he was waving a newspaper at reporters, showing that the violence in Iraq was slowing down. Was that supposed to prove something? Has it never occurred to him that most Americans now know the 'truth' and his version of it is suspect to say the least. I once bought a used car from a dealer named "Honest John". I'd hate to think that I'd be getting another lemon if I voted for Senator "Honest John" McCain.
