Copy cats
I don't know what all the uproar was about when Barack Obama allegedly fudged a few lines from somebody else's speech. That goes on every Saturday and Sunday in churches and synagogues world wide .....unless the clergymen claim original authorship of the words spoken. Not likely, I'm sure. Some speeches are worth repeating, of course, so let's overlook the plagiarism and appreciate the content, if applicable to the subject. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" is an oft repeated phrase as is John Kenndy's "Ask not what your country can do for you" etc......and why not? Nobody can quarrel with their relevancy in this time and place. Great words from the great and the near great have always been a source of inspiration and hope and have often galvanized people to accomplish great things. President Franklin Roosevelt's comforting words rendered in the midst of the great depression, however, would not likely resonate well today. His "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" just wouldn't cover all the real fears facing almost everybody and every place on the globe. If the political candidates want to proclaim high hopes, why not let them dream on and possibly some of it might rub off on us. It surely beats the monotonous calling for lower taxes and the revamping of Supreme Court rulings to appease the oral minorities. I'm sure we can all think of other things it beats if we put our minds to it.

Hi Mr. Morin,
My name is Shawnee and I'm from Mrs. Cole's second period class.
One, I would just like to thank you for taking time out of your day to come talk to us.
Two, I really like how your blog points out that some great speeches may be used time and time again. It may be a little repetitive, but it also characterizes the value in the speech.
Thank you so much again for speaking with us !
I can't wait for it.

Hi, james again and just wanted to say that this pretty funny because its true. We shouldn't get mad at someone for repeating someone else's phrases when it was of some importance.
Hello Mr. Morin
My name is Niyyah Ibrahim.I agree with what you are saying. For my perspective I dont see what is wrong with using someone's ideas or words in order to get your point or words across.
Just like Martin Luther King who got his ideas from Ghandhi.
I don't what whole issue is up Obama and him repeating what someone else said really.
Also i am really thrilled to meet you on Tuesday. Thank You. :)

HELLO MR. MORIN,
Why can't we reuse speeches? They are publically stated, therefore shouldn't they expect that their speeches should be taken and reused again for great purposes. I mean we are all humans and aren't perfect all the time. I can see why come people get mad at him. Senator Obama did use the speech, but however he did not state or cite the source of his speech. He did go wrong there, but he is a human being. We all make mistakes.
THANK YOU,
PHENG VUE

Hey Mr. Morin,
I think you're right when it comes to the re-used phrases Obama incorporated into his speaches.
It shouldn't have been a big deal, but instead a way to inspire the people of America to remember better times and definately better morals.
Unfortunatley, Obama has even more to deal with now.
What do you think America's reaction will be to Obama's speech in response to his pastor's sermon?
By the way, thanks for coming to school to talk with Mrs. Cole's class. It was great :].
