Love thy immigrant
It's no great secret that a very small percentage of Iraqi citizens, displaced by war, have been allowed to immigrate to this country. Americans are understandably leery of large numbers of Muslims coming to our shores, but is this fair in view of the fact that we had a lot to do with their displacement in the first place? When you stop to think about it, what better emissaries can there be than people who have lived under the repressive regime of Saddam Hussein, followed by the horrible suicidal attacks of radical terrorists? First you have to understand that all Muslims are not terrorists and those that are allowed to come here can bring with them the lessons learned the hard way of what it's like to live in terror, not knowing from one day to the next who in their families will live or die. Small countries like Sweden and Denmark have opened their hearts to these refugees to a far greater degree than we have and I think for that, we should be ashamed. After all, we're the ones with the statue in our New York harbor that welcomes the "wretched and the poor" to our shores. They don't come any more wretched than these poor souls. I'm not saying open up the flood gates and let them pour in, but in the name of all that's decent and just, surely we can do a little better. Something righteous needs to emerge from this war or we may as well quit telling ourselves how great we really are.

Ms. Cole's Second Period AP US History class wants to let you know that we are excited that you are coming to talk to us and in response to this post....
Many of us believe that your point of view is compelling and it raised questions.
Are Sweeden and Denmark mad at the U.S. because we have such strict immigration laws?
How do you keep America safe but at the same time live up to your duties?
Just curious:)

Wow... I never really thought of it like that... i mean... i didn't even know that the United states looked upon the iraq immigrants that way... good points though when adressing how we shouldn't flood in immigrants but should try a little bit better in helping them since it was our fault.
Oh yeah, I'm from Ms. Cole's 3rd block A.P. U.S. History class and just wanted to drop by and say something before your arrival. It will be exciting. =D

I agree that the United States should quit believing how great we are. It is very hypocritical of the United States to preach acceptance of immigrants and equality, when we are not allowing many to live here. And even for the small percentage that are aloud to immigrate they are treated unfairly. Something seriously needs to be done to stop this injustice.

Hello
My name is Niyyah Ibrahim
I would like to say you have a really good point there.
But i have one question.
If America allows immigrants to come to the U.S. do you think America will do it with good intentions such as giving the families shelter and food and for them to live in peace and for them to be happy which they haven't had in such a long time, or do you think Americans will allow more immigrants to come so they can make themselves look better than Sweden and Denmark. Just curious to know. :)
Hopefully when you come on Tuesday i can get your perspective on this. :)

I have never thought about this before...and to tell you the truth I believe many Americans are living in ignorance to the events happening around them.
I personally think we should help the immigrants, but the problem is when do we say no more?? How can we keep accepting millions of immigrant and also preserve our country?
I'm from Ms. Coles 3rd block class and I can't wait for you to come :)

Mr. Morin,
I deffinately agree with your "Love thy Immigrant" blog. The United States should allow immigrants to enter the country, but how do we know when enough is enough?
i am from ms. cole's 2nd block class and i want to say thank you for taking time to come and speak to us. i am very excited and can't wait for you to come!

I agree with what you are saying, but I'm afraid it might be too late to change a large amount of American opinions over the Iraqi citizens migrating to America. As sad as it seems, the "tolerant" America that everyone has been told about might not be the greatest place for these citizens to migrate if they wish to seek peace or acceptance.

We read this in Mrs.Cole's class the other day and I thought what you said was very correct. The U.s talks about how they are "the land of oportunity", but then they shut down people who try to come to this "great land"..I think we should be more like Denmark and Sweden and open our arms to the fleeding immigrants.=]

Mr. Morin,
I agree with you 100% on your "Love Thy Immigrant" blog. It opened my eyes to what America is doing. Sometimes I think what America stands for is hypocritical. I wonder why we are so willing to force ourselves into their country unwanted, but when they want to leave it because of what we've done, we don't let them come here.
