The hero near you
I think its safe to say that Americans are unashamedly among the worlds greatest hero worshipers. It's something that goes back to the earliest days of our country's history. There were military heroes like George Washington, great explorers like Lewis and Clark,. Then came the icons of the old West like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. The list goes on to include modern day heroes like astronauts like Alan shepherd and John Glenn. I would like to take a time out to honor a man from my town whom I deem to rank with the worthiest of them all. His name is Paul Brown. Paul has just returned from Mobile Alabama where he, along with former President Jimmy Carter, spent the past week building homes for the poor and disadvantaged. Paul heads up the Winder chapter of Habitat for Humanity and works tirelessly for the betterment of those in need and he does it at his own expense. Paul wears many hats and was recently honored by the city of Auburn for his many contributions to the people of that city by naming a street after him. The street runs alongside the newly constructed library that Paul was instrumental in help making a dream become a reality. Paul's wife Sally is ever at his side in his ongoing struggle to help provide a more level playing field for those less fortunate and I can't over emphasize the role she plays as wife, teacher, mom and all around good citizen. It may be true that heros are made not born, but that would be a hard sell to the people of Auburn . In our eyes, Paul and Sally Brown came to us ready-made......symbols of what faith and goodness is all about.
