Don't light the candles yet

There was a news article on the internet the other day that really put some chirp in my squeak. The article stated that World War Two veterans were dying off at the rate of between 1,000 and 1,500 a day. It also stated that there were around 4,000,000 of us still hanging in. Of course I proceeded to do the math and estimated that within 10 or 11 years, there wouldn't be enough of us skulking around to form a volley ball team and not a very spirited one at that. I'm glad now that I enlisted early on at the age of 17, so unless my luck takes a sudden downward turn, I'll probably be a candidate for that volley ball team, although I'm not much of a fan. I'll most likely be more into stamp collecting or bird watching. I'd like to say 'girl watching,' but my wife is looking on as I write this and I don't want her jealous rage to envelope me. There is a serious side to this speculation and that is the unmistakable truth that time does fly when you're having fun, so whether you happen to be an old war vet like me or someone who has seen a lot of seasons go by in a blur, it would pay you to slow down and take stock of the here and now and live life like there's no to-morrow. No need to state the obvious, is there?
