No blame, no shame

Well, now that the administration and the congress have concluded their findings regarding who's to blame for the price of gas, we can all rest easy in knowing that its nobody's fault and we can just keep on riding along singing a song. Time and time again the major oil companies representatives re-assured questioning congressmen that they were not gouging the public and making unheralded profits that they were not entitled to. The oil producers like Saudi Arabia, kept raising the cost per barrel while they cut back on production and what do you know, they were actually making more profit. Any time you can sell LESS product and make MORE profit is time for jubilation in the board rooms. This mind boggling conclusion did not escape the attention of major oil companies and they in turn began to reap huge profits by adhering to the same logic. Sell less, make more, and the only victim is......guess who? I listened carefully to the claims of great expenditures being made on exploration and experimentation on new fuel alternatives, but strangely enough little documentation was presented to back them up. Would it be naive of me to suggest that maybe the big Oil companies might just reap a little less profit and let the savings trickle on down to us, the madder than hell, great unwashed public?
Of course it would, because big companies are seldom little people-friendly, unless of course they can find new and creative ways to hose us down.......and everytime we stick one into our gas tanks, the hosing is in progress. Perhaps I may be over-simplifying the problem and that we should be grateful that the number at the pump hasn't reach $10.00 yet. I've prepared for that day by buying my wife the best Chinese-made pair of walking shoes that money can buy. We Americans are nothing if not willing to explore new horizons.
