The rockets in air
The Fourth of July is unique, not only because its the day we celebrate the birth of our nation, but it personifies the challenges and hardships we've had to endure and overcome since our independence. It also commemorates and honors the men and women who have served and those who have sacrificed their lives for this country throughout its history. It is especially poignant to-day in light of the agonizing divisions that beset us regarding the disposition of our military forces in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. This is not the time or the day to expound on the pros and cons of the decisions made by our government or re-hash the acrimonious rhetoric from both sides of the issue. I believe it behooves us, as a people, to spend this day reflecting upon our good fortune to be citizens of this wonderful country and at the same time recognize that there is serious need to mend fences and reconcile differences, to work together towards peaceful and honorable solutions to the awful problems that dog us day in and day out.If in the process of trying to put our best foot forward, we falter, we're just going to have to grit our teeth and try again. It was no easy journey getting to where we are, and many paid a high price
to get us here. The least we can do is take up the gauntlet and run with it.
God bless America.
