Speaking to the choir

It amazes me how the political mavens in the media can come up with so many things to fault a candidate about whom they knew almost nothing about a year ago. It's all about the party he represents, of course. Sen. Barack Obama, for example, is under constant siege by conservative columnists like Cal Thomas and Bill O'Reily whose mean spirited bias is not a very closely held secret. You'd think Senator Obama was totally devoid of minimal intelligence despite his educational credentials and personal achievements.. There just isn't the remotest sense of fairness or non partisanship emanating from these pundits of political bias. I sometimes wonder if these people aren't on the payrolls of the parties whose agenda they so rigorously embrace. Before I'm branded as a man with an overdose of prejudicial liberalism, I hasten to confess to that charge and at the same time acknowledge that outrageous accusations and personal attacks are being hurled from both sides of the political spectrum. I know I'd be whistling in the dark if I ever expected candidates to be fairly judged by the likes of talk show blow hard know-it alls like Rush Limbough and news commentators like Lou Dobbs, but wouldn't it be refreshing if, every so often, they engaged their brains before shifting their tongues. It will, in the end, be the American voter who will decide which of the candidates is less despicable and less unqualified to be the next leader of the free world.
