Laugh now, cry later
Kathleen Parker's latest column, "Mr. Putin, you've got mail" was pretty funny. In essence she depicted the standing President and the two wannabe presidents as ranging from the top boob to two boobs in hot pursuit of the title. Ms.Parker was pertaining to President Bush's perceived re-action to Russia's invasion of Georgia, followed by that of presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain. Bush was depicted as shucking and jiving with Vladimir Putin in a jocular way, imploring him to see the light and stop making him (Bush) look like a fool for trusting him. Obama was shown as the peace maker by saying, "our differences are best resolved through words not bombs". He was also allegedly speaking as the self-appointed "chosen leader of the new generation." According to Parker, John McCain would have the briefest message to impart to Putin, which would be, "Don't make me come over there." As I said, very funny stuff, but humor often reveals underlying connotations of a more serious nature. Parker is basically implying that President Bush is an idiot, Barack Obama is a naive plebe who is a babe in the woods in the world of reality and Sen. John McCane is the unchanged self-acknowledged defender of the homeland, espousing the gun boat philosophy of shoot first and and ask questions later. Quick Draw McCain to the rescue. While Kathleen Parker has written a humorous take on the main players in this scenario, make no mistake, the last laugh may be on us.
