Ernest Wade in concert

Ernest Wade, in his letter ("Windfall profits ideas show differences between parties") seems to have made a major departure from his usual claim to have no use for either the Democratic or Republican parties. All of a sudden he is the poster boy for the crowd who thinks Oil Company windfall profits are warranted and shouldn't be taxed.. He sees nothing wrong with the idea of Oil companies reaping enormous profits during oil shortages while the rest of us peons suffer at the pump. Wade says, "The Democratic party believes citizens exist to support government whereas conservative Republicans believe the government exists to serve the citizen." Come again, Ernest? I wonder which citizens Mr. Wade is referring to. If he thinks the American people have been well served over the last eight years of Republican control, he and I are from different planets. I will concede that the Democratic congress has not been all it could be, but to infer that the Republican administration has "served" the people well, is the mother of all absurdities. I am a little tired of being told what Democrats stand for. I know what I stand for and its a far cry from Mr. Wade's claim of Democrats "existing to support government." (He forgot to add "Big.") I'm still trying to get over being told how much I love taxes. To be fair, Ernest is usually pretty even-handed in his evaluations. This time, however, he flared out.
