Final thoughts
Well, the day is finally upon us when we go to the polls and try to get it it right. If we don't, it won't be for lack of effort. Everyone I encounter is deeply troubled by the state of our economy and the dangers we face from terrorists and assorted harbingers of hate and ill will. Its gotten so that at times we can hardly distiguish between our friends and allies and those who mean us harm. Sometimes its too close to call. Whoever emerges as our next president deserves our support and at the very least, a reasonable length of time to establish himself in the job. It will be an awesome task and he shouldn't have to begin by having to suffer negative and ultimately harmful partisan attacks on his administration. This doesn't mean he's entitled to a 'free ride' beyond the brief 'honeymoon' allotted all newly elected presidents. Americans have been asked to withstand some very troubling and frightening years and the level of our patience has pretty much reached its 'sell-by' date. I would like to see the talk show mavens of political rant shut up for a reasonable length of time and give the poor soul who has assumed the captaincy of our ship of state, time to match his performance with his promises. God speed, Mr. President.
