Bipartisonship----a possibility or a pipe dream
In a perfect world, bipartisanship in government would be a welcome dimension in our two party system. It would mean an end to lock-step adherence to one's party doctrine if the individual party member did not go along with the majority of his party on a given issue. The fact that not one Republican member of congress went along with President Obama's plan to try and resolve our economic woes despite the lack of their finding a workable solution during their time in power, does not bode well for much hope of bipartisanship in government anytime soon. It had all the appearances of a sore loser attitude and a petty display of unjustified arrogance. I seriously doubt that much consideration was given the President's plan and automatic rejection based on party affiliation alone was the name of the game. One may argue that this is the way the 'game' has always been played, but why all this palaver about 'crossing the aisle' and working to-wards bipartisan solutions to the nation's problems? I wonder if those who echoed these wonderful sentiments were standing with their fingers crossed behind their backs when they made them. If so, this old ship of state is going to endure some heavy seas in the days and years ahead. Never has that old adage, "united we stand, divided we fall" rang so true.
