Along came a Leader

Just a few days ago, Nelson Mandela celebrated his 91st birthday. He looked great
and he could probably dance rings around men half his age, Mandela was the first President of South Africa to lead a truly democratically representative government of that country. Prior to his election he served more than 27 years in prison for opposing previously apartheid regimes as the leader of the ANZ. a major anti-apartheid party. Those who expected Mr. Mandela to exact revenge upon his previous captors and impose pay-back measures on all those that repressed the Black population of South Africa were sorely disappointed when he firmly rejected what to many would have been just cause for doing so. This was an early sign that this was no ordinary man and he would go on to lead the country like no other before him. He proved himself to be one of the truly great leaders of the twentieth century. Nelson Mandela is often referred to as the father of his country as George Washington is of ours and who can deny him that honor? On behalf of all those who appreciate and honor a leader who personified Democracy with a capital D., a happy belated birthday and many more to come.
